  • Coach Steed enters his 9 th year as the Head Baseball Coach for the North Lamar. At NL Steed has made the playoffs
    every season and produced three All-State Players as well as 17 players moved on to college baseball. In 2024
    Steed led the team to the Regional Tournament and was selected as the All Red River Valley Coach of the Year. Last
    Season the were the Bi-District champions.
    Before coming to NL Steed was at Prairiland where he led the Patriots to back-to-back playoff runs culminating in a
    Bi-District Championship in 2018. The Patriots had the District Pitcher of the year in back to back seasons in 2017
    and 2018. In three season he had 4 kids go on to play college baseball. They were also number two in the state of
    Texas in 3A in stolen bases with 144.
    Prior to coming to Prairiland Steed was the Assistant Coach at Paris Junior College for four Seasons. Steed’s role
    was Pitching coach/recruit coordinator. 50 players recruited by Steed moved on to the four-year level including 28
    Division 1 transfers, as well as, 5 All Americans, 2 Conference Players of the year, 1 Pitcher of the year, 1 Freshman
    of the year and 2 Marucci Elite Hitters of the year. Steed also had three Academic All American teams with a team
    GPA over 3.25. In 2014 the Dragons Won the Conference Championship for the first time in school history in route
    to their third straight regional tournament appearance another first for the Dragons. The Dragon pitching staff set
    the Conference record for lowest Team ERA with a 1.73. They had 347 strikeouts and only 152 walks. In 403
    innings they held their opponents to only 371 hits. The staff produced the Pitcher of the year Callaway Kirkpatrick
    (Marshall University) with the second lowest ERA in Conference history at 0.90. Callaway also set the Record for
    most innings pitched with 69.1. The Freshman of the year Cannon Chadwick (University of Arkansas) with a 1.20
    ERA who held the Conference record for most innings pitched with 67.1 for one day until counter part Callaway
    Kirkpatrick broke that record.
    In 2013 the Dragons won over 30 games finishing with a 31-24 and a great show in the regional tournament.
    Steeds pitching staff finished second in the conference in ERA and Top 5 in the region on the year. LHP Callaway
    Kirkpatrick won 1 st Team All-Conference and Closer Jared Fielden won 2 nd Team All-Conference while leading the
    league in Saves. Brewer Money and Callaway Kirkpatrick represented the pitching Staff in the 2013 TX-NM All Star
    Game. Out of the six Sophomore pitchers on the staff all six signed with four year schools three at the Division 1
    level.
    In 2012 his first season with the Dragons Steed was apart of a Dragon team that finished the Season with a winning
    record going 27-25, and 19-15 in Conference play. The dragons were beat out of the conference tournament in
    two extra inning games and have high expectations for this season. Steed’s pitching staff maintained the third best
    ERA in the league with a 3.45 striking out over 200 batters. Steed placed two pitchers on the all conference team
    as well as two pitchers on the TX-NM All Star game that year.
    As a Player Steed started his college career at Northeast Texas CC where he accumulated 18 wins in two years. His
    sophomore year he was 10-2 with a 1.98 ERA and voted 1 st team ALL-Conference, where he led the Eagles to a
    conference championship. From there Steed went on to play at the Division I level with the UTA Mavericks. Steed
    continued on at the Professional level playing four years in the minor leagues, where he was a two time ALL-Star.
    His best year came in 2006 when he was the Pitcher of the Year for the Edinburg Coyotes, winning the Era title in
    the United League and Starting the ALL-Star game.
    Steed and his wife Ashley have two daughters Brooklyn (18) and Capri (10).
