High School Football Coaches

Carlos Guevara serves as the Head Football Coach at North Lamar, where he also coaches powerlifting. Now in his ninth year of coaching and second year at North Lamar, he brings a strong passion for both football and developing young athletes. Originally from La Grange, Texas, moving to this area was a brand-new experience for him. Football was the first thing in his life that gave him both passion and purpose, and over time he discovered that coaching and teaching allowed him to turn that passion into a meaningful career. Coach Guevara strives to instill in his athletes a desire to win in every aspect of life—not just on the field, but also in the classroom, at home, and in the community. He holds his players to high expectations so they, in turn, learn to set and reach high expectations for themselves—never backing down, and always striving to be the best in everything they do.

Tyler Watts serves as the Varsity Defensive Line Coach for football and the Head Powerlifting Coach at North Lamar. This is his third year in coaching, with all three years spent at North Lamar. He grew up in Simms, Texas, where he attended James Bowie High School. Inspired by his own coaches, Tyler saw firsthand the powerful influence they had—not just on athletes, but on individuals—and he now strives to provide that same impact for his players. Known for his disciplined yet caring coaching style, he focuses on building both character and work ethic. His favorite part of coaching at North Lamar is the relationships he develops with athletes and the opportunity to watch them grow not only in their sport, but also as young men and women. Beyond athletics, Coach Watts hopes his athletes learn the value of hard work, accountability, and perseverance—skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Growing up with three older brothers, football and competition were always central to his life, and those family experiences continue to fuel his passion for being a positive influence on his athletes today.

  • Colton Chamberlain serves as the Head Offensive Line Coach while also coaching basketball and track at North Lamar. A proud 2017 graduate of North Lamar, he spent his entire academic career in the district. The relationships and bonds he formed with his own coaches through the NL program inspired him to pursue coaching, and many of those coaches later became mentors as he entered the profession. Their impact continues to guide him as he works to carry on that legacy with the next generation of North Lamar graduates. Beyond athletics, Coach Chamberlain hopes his athletes learn the qualities necessary for success in life—leading with integrity, facing adversity with resilience, and growing into strong, honorable men who will positively impact their families and communities. He is also blessed to share this journey with his wife, who coaches at Stone Middle School.

  • Coach Deven Collins serves as the Running Backs and Fullbacks Coach at North Lamar while also coaching junior high basketball and track. Known as an “energy magnet,” Coach Collins brings passion, enthusiasm, and positivity to everything he does. He believes energy is contagious and works to create an environment where student-athletes are challenged, supported, and motivated to become better every day.

A native of Ennis, Texas, Coach Collins comes from a small town with a big football tradition. He was a member of the 2014 State Championship team, an experience that helped shape his passion for the game and taught him the importance of teamwork, discipline, and commitment. He continued his football career as a standout college athlete and eventually earned an opportunity to pursue a career in the CFL, but injuries cut that journey short.

Football has remained a major part of Coach Collins’ life. His goal is to go above and beyond to help student-athletes reach their full potential, both on and off the field. He believes the lessons learned through football should carry into life, whether athletes continue playing at the next level or enter the workforce. His mission is to help develop disciplined, confident, accountable, and hardworking young men prepared for success beyond football.
