Teacher Incentive Allotment

House Bill 3 (HB 3), passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019, established an initiative named the Teacher Incentive Allotment. The Teacher Incentive Allotment is an opportunity to bring resources to Texas teachers and districts, particularly in high need and rural areas, to aid in recruiting, supporting, and retaining highly effective teachers in all schools through increased compensation.

TIA is built for Texas school districts to designate and reward top-performing teachers. Teachers can earn one of three levels of designation – Recognized, Exemplary, or Master. Teachers with a National Board certification may be designated as Recognized. 

Districts receive an annual allotment for each eligible designated teacher they employ and may use TIA funds to incentivize effective teachers to remain in the classroom and prioritize high-needs campuses.

Eligible Teacher Assignments: 

 

If you teach any one of the following grade level subjects then you are eligible for TIA:

  • 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade Math
  • 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade Reading
  • Algebra I
  • English I
  • English II

Observations

Observations account for 40% of a teacher's TIA score. For North Lamar, this score is calculated by averaging four walkthroughs and one formal observation.  

Student Growth Measure

Student growth accounts for 60% of a teacher's overall TIA score at North Lamar, determined by STAAR/EOC growth measures.
