Lamar County Shared Services Arrangement provides a full continuum of Special Education services for individuals with disabilities ages birth through twenty-two.

Parent-Directed Treatment Project

The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University would like to offer training at no cost to parents and caregivers of children up to age 22 with core features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Parents and caregivers will learn how to improve their child's communication skills. This service is provided by a grant project entitled “Autism Grant Program (AGP): Parent-directed Treatment," sponsored by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The training includes a 1-hour self-paced webinar that teaches behavioral strategies to increase communication use in children with ASD. Once complete, there is also the option to be paired with a coach for more intensive 12-week training specific to their child’s communication needs (again, at no cost to parents). Coaching is offered in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Thai.

We have had great experience in working with service providers and would like to develop a partnership with ISDs, schools, parent support groups, and ASD service providers to reach as many families as possible. Besides the self-paced webinar, we are pleased to offer online group parent training sessions to parents and caregivers in your institution or school district. If you would like to discuss more details, please email me.

Thank you for sharing our recruitment materials with parents, service providers, or teachers in your institution or school district. I have enclosed our Spring recruitment materials in English, Spanish, and Chinese for your review. If you need hard copies of the recruitment materials or have any questions, please feel free to the project coordinator, Ching-Yi Liao at TAMUAuParent@tamu.edu

The children of Texas come in all sizes, shapes, colors and abilities.  They do not learn the same way, but they ALL learn.  Do you know of an infant, child or young adult who does not learn easily or has an impairment that might affect his/her success in life?

Public education in Texas is for every child.  Don't leave any child behind.  For more information call the North Lamar ISD Special Education Office at 903-737-2031.
