Did You Know...
  • For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.
  • You can run a TV for six hours on the amount of electricity that is saved by recycling one aluminum can.
  • By recycling just one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
  • If you wash two loads of laundry in warm or cold water instead of hot every week, you'll save around 500 pounds of carbon dioxide every year.
  • In the average home, 75 percent of the electricity used to power electronics is consumed when they're turned off but plugged in.
  • By line-drying your clothes in the spring and summer instead of using the dryer, you can save 700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
