  • April 28, 2009 - Stone Honor Band won Sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest.  This is 24 years in a row.  The Symphonic Band also won Sweepstakes this year making it the second time for this group.
  • April 27, 2009 - NLHS Students Advance to State UIL Academics .  Students who placed in the top three spots and advanced to state in Austin on May 8 and 9 are Anna Winters - 1st in Literary Criticism, Carolyn Ball - 2nd in Poetry, and Billy Goette - 3rd in Persuasive Speaking.  Others who placed were Tawney King - 6th in Accounting, Jessica Martin - 6th in Computer Applications, Andrew Crosswhite - 5th in Informative Speaking, Carver Hodgkiss 6th in Persuasive Speaking, Matt Winkler - 5th in Science, and Dakota Kilcrease placed 5th in Social Studies.         
  • April 27, 2009 - NLHS One Act Play advanced to state and the cast, crew, and directors will compete at State UIL Academic Meet on May 7 in Austin.  Recognized for their individual performances were Carolyn Ball for Best Actress, Josef Anderson and Lucas Robertson for All Star Cast, and Shelby Gilliam for Honorable Mention All Star Cast.   • April 22, 2009 - The boys golf team won the Boys Regional Golf Championship with a 616 total and are headed to the state tournament.  The individual totals are below with the top 4 scores counting towards the total.  Jay Cox:  77-73  150, Derek Parson 77-76  153, Keldon Beal:  78-78  156,  Tanner Clemmons: 81-76  157, and Jordon Toler: 82-95  177 [picture]  
  • April 21, 2009 - Pantherette Softball team has clinched the District Softball  Championship. [picture]
  • April 21, 2009 - The Pantherette Track Team won the District Girls Track Championship accumulating 138 points.  District champions are Morgan Flippen - 400 meter run and Cindy Rangel - 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Also advancing to the regional track meet are: Shamariee Hill - long jump, 400 and 800 meter relays; Rudy Johnson - 100 and 300 meter hurdles; Brittnee Zamora - 400 and 800 meter relays; Nichole Perry - 800 meter relay; Shelby Wilson - 800 meter relay; Keysha McFrazier - 400 meter relay; Katlin Alexander - discus; and Natasha Clayton - pole vault

  • April 14, 2009 - NLHS boys are are the 2009 District 10AAA Boys Golf Champions:  Tanner Clemons, Jay Cox, Derrick Parson, Jordan Toler, Keldon Beal.  The Number Two team finished in 3rd place team members are  Ryan Bankston, Cody Compton, Zack McEwin, Forrest Moody, and Hunter Berry.  Other members of the team are Logan Vass, Tyler Russell and Zack Springer [picture]  
  • April 13, 2009 - The Stone Middle School Varsity Girls and Mixed Choirs each received 1st Divisions ratings at the American Classic Music Festivals held at The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.  [picture]     
  • April 13, 2009 - NLHS Speech and Debate team captured the District Championship with a total of 225 points at the District Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Informative and Persuasive Speech and Prose, and Poetry Interpretation Tournament.  Placing in Informative Speaking were Andrew Crosswhite (1st place), Emma Harrington (2nd place), and Max Inmon (3rd place); Lincoln Douglas Debate, Max Inmon (1st place), Jordan Malone (2nd place), and Sydney Winkler (3rd place); Persuasive Speaking, Billy Goette (1st place), Carver Hodgkiss (2nd place), and Kelsey Bolyard (4th place); Prose Interpretation, Josef Anderson (1st place) and Shelby Gillam (6th place); and Poetry Interpretation,  Carolyn Ball (1st place), Emma Harrington (3rd place), and Bryan Pfiester (6th place).  Tied for Top Speaker in LD Debate were Max Inmon and Jordan Malone.   Students who place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd will compete at the Regional Meet on Saturday, April 25 at Texas A&M Commerce.   [picture]

  • April 7, 2009 - NL Panthers named to the All-Red River Valley Boys Basketball Team:  2nd Team - Patrick Thomas; Honorable Mention - Jonathon Hawkins, and Dakota Mason
  • April 6, 2009 - NLHS Kevin Porter (junior) advanced to the National SkillsUSA Competition after placing 1st in Outdoor Power Equipment at the State meet.  Jacob Thomas (sophomore) placed 1st in Outdoor Power Equipment Technical Information Test. The national competition will be in Kansas City June 21-25.  Billy Copeland is the sponsor for these students.  [picture]  
  • April 6, 2009 - NLHS was named District Champions at the AAA UIL Academic Meet with a total of 563 points.  Team championships were in One Act Play, Speech, Accounting, Calculator, Cross Examination Debate, Literary Criticism, Mathematics, Number Sense, Science, Social Studies, and Spelling.  Thirty-nine NL students have qualified for region thus far and pending on the Area One Act Play competition on Thursday, April 9, at North Lamar, 19 others may well advance to region.  
  • April 3, 2009 - NL campuses Bailey Intermediate; Cecil Everett Elementary and W. L. Higgins Elementary were recognized by the Northeast Texas School Boards Association for their outstanding academic performance. The campuses were designated Distinguished Performance School  by the Division of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Program at the Texas Education Agency. [picture]  
  • April 1, 2009 - The 7th and 8th grade Stone Middle School choirs competed at the UIL Choir Concert and Sightreading Contest in Mt. Pleasant.  Earning straight ones and receiving the Sweepstakes Award was the Varsity Girls Choir.  The Girls Honor Choir received a 1st Division in Sightreading and a 2nd Division in Concert while the Boys Choir received a 2nd Division in both Sightreading and Concert.  The choirs are under the direction of Michelle Anderson.  [picture]

  • March 6, 2009 - NLISD diagnosticians,  Wendi Burton, Jenifer Cooper, and Carol Newberry were recognized for their participation in the standardization of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale - 4th Edition and the Wechsler Memory Scale - 4th Edition.
  • March 2, 2009 - NLHS freshman, Jordan Barnhill, placed 5th out of 23 in Extemporaneous Health Poster and 4th in Career Health at Area 3 HOSA conference which sets her as first alternate for state.  
  • March 2, 2009 - NLHS Boys Varsity Soccer keeps the Lamar County World Cup after the second shootout win against Paris this year.
  • February 24 - NLHS senior, Mack Brawley, is ranked number three in the state of Texas in Powerlifting.  After earning the regional title, he competed in the state’s 242 pound weight class and placed with a combined weight of 1570 lbs. consisting of a 660 lbs. squat, 355 lbs. bench press, and 555 lbs. deadlift.  
  • February 18 - Pantherette Basketball Team wins a Bi-District Basketball Championship.
  • February 16 - NLHS Boys Golf Team won the Championship at the 3A State Preview.  Jay Cox finished as 2nd Place medalist and Tanner Clemmons finished in 6th Place
  • February 13 - NLHS students Taylor Woods (sophomore) made 1ST CHAIR and Sam Winters made 2nd CHAIR in the Texas 4A All-State Band  
  • February 10 - NLHS Debate Team swept the District 10-3A CX Debate Championships today results are: 1st place (advancing to state) - Billy Goette and Carver Hodgkiss; 2nd place (advancing to state) - Michael Jones and Bryan Pfiester; 3rd place (alternates to state) - Emma Harrington and Tasia Easlon; 4th place (2nd alternates to state) - Kaitlyn Bull and CarolAnne Cosgrove
  • February 9 - NLHS Skills USA automotive team competed in the District 5 Skills USA Automotive Contest. Results are: All of the students placed and received medals as well as scholarships, Coty Nelson 1st Place and Taylor Harris 3rd Place - Auto Service Technology, and Kevin Arnold 1st Place and  Thomas Erwin 3rd Place - Diesel Equipment Technology . They will all advance to State competition in Corpus.
  • February 6 - Everett Elementary, Bailey Intermediate, and Higgins Elementary schools are among the 312 campuses statewide that have been recognized by the Division of NCLB Program Coordination at the Texas Education Agency as Distinguished Performance Schools for outstanding academic performance.  From Region 8 Avery ISD, McLeod ISD, Mt. Pleasant ISD, North Lamar ISD, Sulphur Springs ISD, and Texarkana ISD all had campus that are recognized as Distinguished Performance Schools.  Distinguished Performance Schools must meet the following criteria:
  • Title I, Part A Campus 2006-2007, 2007-2008, and 2008-2009
  • 40% or more low-income in 2008-2009
  • Met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2007 and 2008
  • Exemplary in spring of 2008
  • Exemplary or Recognized in spring of 2007 ·Exemplary or Recognized in spring of 2006

  • January 18 - NLISD instructors Linda Winfrey and Claire Anderson were awarded for their outstanding service and contribution to the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented.
  • January 16 - NLHS students Samuel Winters and Taylor Woods are named to the 4A All-State Band.
  • January 12 - The NLHS Beta State Convention results.  Zach Springer won FIRST place in Science!  This is a huge accomplishment.  This is one of the hardest competitions, and for it to be won by a Sophomore is amazing!  The Campaign Skit won FIRST in the state (out of 20 skits).  They completely nailed the routine, and I thought the roof would come off of the Austin Hilton Governor's Ballroom at the completion of the skit!  Andrew Crosswhite is the new Vice President of ALL Beta Clubs in the state of Texas!  Andrew's speech was flawless, and his stage presence was commanding.  What a fine young man to represent our school district.  The National Convention will be held in Orlando in June.

  • December 21 - NLHS student Emma Harrington wins Paris Council of Garden Clubs speech contest.
  • December 18 - NLISD Statement of Revenues, Expenditures, and Changes in Fund Balances
  • December 15 - NLHS culinary arts instructor, Judy Weatherford and former NL homemaking instructor, Kathleen Williams has combined a series of recipes from the past.  Proceeds will help with convention expenses.
  • December 17 - 24 students from Stone made All-Region Choir.
  • December 15 - 75 Everett and Bailey students competed in the District Elementary UIL Academic Meet. Results are listed in the Panther Pride News.

  • December 10 - 59 Stone Middle School students earned positions in the Region IV All-Region Honor Band.
  • December 8 - The Pantherette Varsity BB team were the tournament champions this weekend at the Prestonwood Christian Academy Tournament. Shamariee Hill was the MVP and All Tournament were Ashley Endsley and Chelsea Shackelford.
  • November 3 - Everett class of Karon Sparks performs Thanksgiving songs for parents and grandparents.
  • November 23 - Everett students receive a visit from Gibby Gobbler, turkey.

  • November 16 - NLHS Freshman Cindy Rangel finished 6th at the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet. Cindy clocked an 11:59.35.
  • November 14 - NLHS student Cindy Rangel placed 6th at the Region II 3A cross country meet. Cindy will be competing at the State Cross country meet in Round Rock on Sat. Nov 15.  The girls team placed 5th and boys team placed 18th.
  • November 13 - Parker students honor veterans.
  • November 12 - NLHS Beta Club Veterans Day program honors area veterans.  Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Ken Norris was guest speaker.
  • November 4 - NL elementary schools cast their vote president.
  • November 3 - Gifford to Compete for Miss Texas Teen in Houston - NLHS freshman Jenna Gifford is scheduled to compete in the Miss Texas Teen Pageant later this month.
  • November 3 - North Lamar High School Panther Band and Blue Diamond Danceline are among the top 10 bands in State 3A.
  • October 28 - Marching to State - The NLHS band heads to state competition Saturday at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.
  • October 12 - NLHS students Dylan Armstrong, Paige Allen, and Anne Stankus have advanced to Pre-Area after they were named to the All-Region Mixed Choir.
  • October 12 - NLHS Senior Samuel Cosgrove was named 2009 National Merit Commended Student.
  • October 6 - Bidders Help Raise $35,000 for NL Scholarships
  • October 6 - Chelsie Shackelford was crowned 2008-2009 North Lamar Homecoming Queen

  • NLHS Instructor Yvonne Parson is recipient of the first annual Teaching Excellence in Financial Literacy Award by the Independent Bankers Association of Texas.  She received a $1,000 check from Peoples Bank.

  • Everett Principal Carey Malone was selected for the second term as District VIII  President Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

  • September 21 - Hometown Scholarship Program Begins Fundraiser Campaign - The Hometown Scholarship Program presented by James Hodge Motors, North Lamar and Paris High School bands generates scholarships funds for high school band students.
  • August 25 - NL Play to Follow a Theme - The theme is "Blue & Gold Make Green" is carried our tin the NLHS drama department's fall production "URINETOWN the Musical" and the school's one-act play "The Enemy of the People."  Plans are in place to raise the environmental awareness of students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • August 14 - Notice of Public Meeting to Discuss NLISD Budget and Proposed Tax Rate
  • August 3 - School Accountability Ratings Released - NLISD becomes the area's first district to receive the state's highest accountability rating at three of their six campuses.  Higgins, Everett, and Bailey all received the coveted Exemplary rating.  Parker was rated Recognized, Stone and NLHS were rated Academically Acceptable.  The district is rated Recognized.
