This is a list of a few virtual tour
sites and one portal site that lists virtual tours. We decided we
could use it in a whole class setting with a computer and a
projector. Many require Flash, QuickTime or other software
capabilities, but nothing expensive. They could also be used
individually by students in a computer lab if they have headphones
available. Some have sound and others do not.
Virtual Tours
www.CampusTours.com –
Lets you search by state or university/college name for virtual
tours of their campuses. Some of them are just sets of photos, but
others could be classified as virtual.
The White House
http://www.whitehouse.org/tours/
From this page there are
links to photos of different rooms in the White House with
information about each room.
PBS White House tour
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/whitehouse/virtual.html
This virtual tour shows
outline drawings of each room and will zoom in on details. Would be
good to pair with the one above that has real color photos of the
rooms.
Virtual Tours of Britain
http://www.britishtours.com/360/
This one was really neat. Includes the
Beatles’ Abbey Road, ChristChurch on which Harry Potter’s Hogwarts
Great Room was modeled. The virtual 360 really works by dragging
your mouse across the picture.
